Foster
Augusta Dog Adoptions is an all-volunteer, foster based rescue and does not have a physical shelter where animals are kept. That means that we depend on a highly responsible network of foster homes to take care of all the dogs we save. We provide medical care, basic supplies, a crate and promote and organize their adoptions.
Most of the dogs we take in have come into shelters as strays and we have little to no behavioral history or medical history on them. We try to match dogs with foster homes where they will be successful, but all families should have a way to keep their foster separated from the other pets in their home. Your own pets are required to be spayed or neutered before bringing in a foster dog and we highly recommend they be up to date on basic vaccines to protect their own health.
Foster families do need to be within driving distance of Staunton/Waynesboro, VA as getting your foster to vet appointments and adoption events is a requirement.
Many of our foster families have been with us for over 10 years and enjoy the feeling of saving a dog that is at risk of being put to sleep! If our program sounds like a good fit for you, please fill out a foster application.
